Abstract

Floating column, Earth quake, Storey Drift, lateral Displacement
In the present scenario, the buildings with floating columns are the typical features in the multistorey construction. As the load path in the floating columns is not continuous, they are more vulnerable to the seismic activity. The main objective is to show the nature of the residential reinforced concrete building (G+12) with floating columns under earthquake excitations.As we all know there are two types of methods of seismic analysis, we considered linear static analysis of seismic coefficient method for analysis of a G+12 residential reinforced concrete structure, in this project using ETABS v15.2.2 software as per IS:1893 (part 1)-2002. Seismic zone map is given by IS: 1893 (part 1)-2002. These zones are re-assigned by multi spectral data of the earth quakes of the particular region. The seismic parameters such as lateral displacement , base shear, fundamental time period and inter storey drift are studied and the comparison between these parameters are given between the regular building and building with floating column.
