Abstract

ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT
Vehicle/Eqpt/Plants, Inventory control, commonality, Field Workshop, Base workshop and Preventive repair & maintenance etc.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) develops and maintains roads networks in India's border areas and friendly neighboring countries. BRO operates in 19 states and three UTs (Andaman and Nicobar Islands, J&K and Laddakh), and neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. BRO operates and maintains over 32,885 kilometers of roads and about 12,200 meters of permanent bridges in the country. The BRO operates through 18 Projects namely : Arunank, Beacon, Brahmank, Chetak, Deepak, Dantak, Himank, Hirak, Pushpak, Sampark, Setuk, Sewak, Shivalik, Swastik, Udayak, Vartak, Vijayak and Rohtang Tunnel. BRO is instrumental in significantly upgrading and building new Indo-China Border Roads. This is only organization in India, working with own expertise and machineries. All development activities are being done by various modern and advanced Vehicle/ Eqpt / Plants. Their upkeep, preventive maintenance and repair is a challenging job for 37 Field workshops and 2 Base workshops. Hence a dedicated and practical approach is needed to overcome these works to avoid delay in repair. It also ensures optimal availability of equipment for actual job on ground. Therefore, this study is done after a detailed analysis and taking feedback from staff working on ground. It is decided to firstly summarize the need of all kinds of filters to be used for the Veh /Eqpt /Plants and their commonality with the existing fleet of Veh /Eqpt /Plants . It enables to reduce cost of repair and maintenance of fleet of BRO and to provide all types of filters in right quantity, at right time and of right quality as per need on ground.
