Abstract

ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
IoT, Landslide Detection, Early Warning System, Vibration Sensors, Wireless Communication Disaster Management
This project presents an IoT-based Landslide Detection System that leverages a network of vibration sensors to monitor ground movements in high-risk zones. The system employs a distributed architecture comprising multiple sensor nodes that communicate with a central hub. When vibrations exceed predefined thresholds, the system triggers immediate automated responses including audible and visual alarms, automatic closure of safety gates, and transmission of alert messages to authorities through SMS and cloud-based dashboards. The implementation utilizes cost-effective components: ESP-01 modules with SW-1801P vibration sensors form the monitoring nodes, while a Node MCU serves as the central hub, interfacing with various components including servo motors, GSM modules, OLED displays, and buzzers. The system features multi-zone monitoring with real-time data visualization, fail-safe mechanisms, and customizable sensitivity settings. Field tests indicate that the system can detect anomalous ground vibrations with a response time of approximately 100ms, providing crucial early warnings for potential landslide events. The system's modular design allows for easy expansion to cover wider geographical areas and integration with existing disaster management infrastructures. This affordable and reliable early warning solution demonstrates significant potential for deployment in landslide-prone areas, particularly along mountain roads, railway tracks, construction sites, and vulnerable communities, contributing to enhanced public safety and reduced disaster impact.
