Abstract

Academic-Education
Elementary Education, Choice-less choice, Preferred Choice, Causal Comparative, Academic performance, engagement
Choice-less choice and Preferred choice are choices that differs from each other. Students who had no choice other than selecting a course that is out of their choices or selecting the best choice among all the poorest choices is called choice-less. On the other hand, students who selected the course according to their will is called preferred choice. These two choices are undeniably opposite and differ from each other and with its differences, the outcomes of each individual’s effort may also be varied. This study utilized causal-comparative research design to compare the academic performance and level of engagement of students from choice-less choice and preferred choice. An adapted survey questionnaire were used to gather data from 130 BEED respondents from Davao De Oro State College Maragusan Branch. These students were identified through universal sampling. Findings revealed that preferred choice students performed better in their academic and in engagement compared to the choice-less choice students. Hence, the author suggest that students should be provided with enough choice by offering a broader range of courses, ensuring diverse choices that cater to various interests and aptitudes.
