Abstract

educational administration, disaster recovery, resiliency, challenges, coping mechanisms, contingency plan, phenomenology
The purpose of this study was to examine the resilience of junior high school students in disaster recovery, with an emphasis on their coping strategies and factors that influence their recovery. A qualitative-phenomenological research approach was used in the study, and (8) students who had recently been affected by disasters were interviewed in-depth. The participants shared their experiences navigating disaster recovery, which included emotional difficulties like anxiety and fear, delays to their academic deadlines, dependence on family and peer support, and the need for mental health resources. Students emphasized the value of being ready for school, having close community relationships, and teachers' role in encouraging emotional stability. According to the learners, relationships were strengthened, chances for personal development were presented, and a stronger sense of resilience was developed as a result of disaster recovery. However, participants also revealed several challenges, such as feeling overwhelmed by schoolwork after the disaster, limited access to resources, and difficulty in balancing recovery with academic responsibilities. While disasters posed difficulties such as interrupted education, trauma, limited access to basic needs, and unstable learning environments, learners demonstrated coping mechanisms such as peer support, prayer, developing new routines, and engaging in community activities. In addressing these challenges, the students suggested the need for more emotional support, better disaster preparedness, and clearer guidelines for academic continuity. The study also identifies effective strategies for boosting students' resilience, like encouraging honest communication, fostering a positive learning atmosphere, and putting mental health treatments into practice. The results provide important information for developing a better contingency plan that will help junior high school students recover better from disasters.
