Abstract

Civil Engineering
Innumerable, Compressive strength, Reinforcement, Randomly distributed, Permeability, Synthetic Frost resistance, Freezing and Thawing, Consumption
It is a well known fact that concrete leads as the most frequently used construction material in the world because of its innumerable properties. Concrete being brittle is weak in tension almost one tenth of its compressive strength. Various experiments have shown that inclusion of fibres in concrete has significantly improved its compressive as well as tensile strength. The fiber reinforcement can be used to improve the toughness, shrinkage and durability characteristics of concrete. Different types of fibres are used in concrete as per the requirement & and desired properties. Workability of concrete is not much affected by the addition of different fibres in concrete. Many among the commonly used fibers, easily available low cost natural fibers as well as synthetic fibres can be used.As per the experimental studies the compressive and tensile strength was found to increase up to 33.43 % and 24.9 % respectively. Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is cementing concrete reinforced mixture with more or less randomly distributed small fibres. In the FRC numerous small and irregular fibres are dispersed and distributed randomly in the concrete at the time of mixing so as to improve concrete properties in all directions. In developed countries FRC is commonly used now in construction attributing to its excellent flexural-tensile strength, resistance to spitting, impact resistance, shock resistance, resistance to plastic shrinkage and excellent permeability and frost resistance. Using FRC alternate freezing and thawing resistance of the concrete has considerable improved. Many developments have been made in the Fiber Reinforced Concrete(FRC) by introducing new fibres. Use of Fibre Reinforced Concrete (FRC) reduces the material and labor thus making it economically efficient. Fiber reinforcement Concrete also reduces the thickness of the structural members by about 37 % hence enabling to reduce the consumption of materials in construction. Despite possessing many advantages over ordinary reinforced concrete, Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) is rarely used in our country.
