Abstract

CIVIL ENGINEERING
Waste foundry sand, compression strength, flexural strength test, Rigid pavement, split tensile strength, Commercial vehicle per day (cvpd), Dry clean concrete (DLC), Eco-friendly, cost, Indian.
Indian road of almost 5.4 million km comprising together paved and unpaved surfaces is the world’s second largest. Indian roads are presently constructed with not the right choice of material. Concrete and bitumen are mostly used in road construction in the India. A very small share of roads in the India is made of concrete. The uses of large amount of by-product materials as waste or used not only avoids the requirement of landfills but also reduce the environmental problem & make eco- friendly work. It is most essential to develop profitable building materials from waste foundry sand. The use of waste foundry sand is replacement with the fine aggregate in traditional concrete. The fine aggregate has been replaced by waste foundry sand accordingly in the range of plain, 10%, 20% 30%, 40% & 50% by weight for M-35 grade concrete. Concrete mixtures were produced, tested and compared in terms of compressive, flexural strength & split tensile strength with the conventional concrete. These tests were carried out to estimate the mechanical properties for 7and 28 days. This research work is to investigate the behaviour of concrete while replacing waste foundry sand in different proportion in concrete. This low cost concrete with good strength is used in rigid pavement for 4000 commercial vehicles per day (cvpd) and Dry Lean Concrete (DLC) 150mm thick for national highway to make it eco-friendly.
