Abstract

The Modern concept of evaluation which has evolved largely, though gradually, in recent decades, stemmed from a newer philosophy of education which called for the development of more adequate techniques of assessing pupil growth and development. This recent philosophy of education has emphasized the responsibility of the educator not only for the development of concepts, information, skills, and habits, but also for the stimulation of pupil growth in attitudes, appreciation, interest, powers of thinking, and personal-social adaptability. As these objectives have become clarified and defined in instructional practices, appropriate methods of assessment-both formal and informal- have been devised to gauge the adequacy of the schools’/colleges’ programmes. Word means “sound or group of sounds, a letter or group of letters expressing an idea. Many words are there to express different ideas, or to identify different things. Words are one of the important inventions of man, without which any communication of information, ideas or feelings would have been impossible. But one has to be very careful while using words. Words are living things. They are like a sword. They can make or mar anything. Words of love, sympathy and appreciation can win many hearts and you may become successful. Just as we use our money economically and thoughtfully words too should be used carefully. Therefore, we should know the exact meaning of different words. Our use of words should express exactly what we want to express and communicate. In the present paper I want to suggest some innovative techniques in evaluation for vocabulary competence, the techniques I practice in the classroom while giving practice to my B.Com & B.B.A students and also while setting internal and university exam papers.
