Abstract

NURSING
Virtual reality (VR) intervention, knowledge, attitudes, egg freezing
Egg freezing, a breakthrough in fertility preservation, has emerged as an option for women to address delayed motherhood. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a virtual reality (VR) intervention on knowledge and attitudes about egg freezing among young married women in an urban community in Coimbatore. Using a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 50 participants: 25 in an experimental group that received VR-based educational intervention and 25 in a control group that did not. Participants' knowledge and attitudes were measured by pre- and post-intervention using a structured questionnaire and Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including t-tests and chi-square tests using SPSS software. Ethical considerations, such as informed consent and privacy, were strictly upheld. The findings showed that, initially, most participants had poor knowledge of egg freezing. Post-intervention, 84% of the experimental group displayed good knowledge, a marked improvement compared to the control group, which saw minimal change. The experimental group's mean knowledge score improved significantly from 2.80 to 12.68, while the control group's remained steady at around 3.0. Similarly, attitudes toward egg freezing in the experimental group improved substantially in post-intervention, with the mean attitude score increasing from 15.60 to 43.52, whereas the control group’s score showed only slight improvement. Statistical tests indicated highly significant differences in both knowledge and attitude between the two groups (P < 0.001). The study concluded that VR intervention effectively enhanced knowledge and positively shifted attitudes about egg freezing, suggesting VR's potential as an innovative educational tool in reproductive health education.
