Child-friendly School System, Social Development Program, 2030 Agenda, Adopt-a-School
This study examined the implementation of the Child-friendly School System (CFSS) in Carrascal District and how the mining industry’s Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) sustained it. It was affixed by four theoretical frameworks: CFSS, the Adopt-a-School Program (ASP), the Mining Act of 1995, and the UN’s 17 Social Development Goals (SDG). The 20 participants of this study were select School Governing Council (SGC) member across Carrascal District. This research work employed qualitative design through Colaizzi’s phenomenological descriptive method. It intended to measure the sustainability of CFSS in schools through the SDMP. This study discovered that both CFSS and SDMP need to become more operational. Through qualitative data-gathering method, this research identified four problems that deterred the smooth implementations of both programs. They were ranked as follows: (1) lack of communication; (2) lack of facilities and equipment; (3) delay of support; and (4) misalignment of support to School Improvement Plans (SIPs) and Annual Improvement Plans (AIPs). The data analysis also pointed out that most schools were not able to maximize their reach within communities and solely relied on the mining companies’ SDMPs. This research work implied that both CFSS and SDMP implementations need to be enhanced. It can be achieved through the collaboration between internal and external stakeholders. Without the support from organizations in the community, the education system will not thrive, and globalization will not be achieved.
