This study aims to determine whether the economic status of students affects their academic understanding of the Filipino subject and to provide recommendations that can help in developing educational programs focused on equalizing learning opportunities regardless of financial status, using a causal-comparative research design. One hundred and two Senior High School students from Kao National High School served as respondents. Upon analyzing the data, several key points emerged regarding the relationship between students’ economic status and their academic understanding of the Filipino subject. Most respondents came from families with a small number of members and low income. Although the mean of the students’ responses indicates overall satisfaction with their experience in the Filipino subject, there are still aspects that require improvement, such as comprehension and use of the Filipino language and time management for studying. Additionally, the study shows that there is no significant relationship between economic status and academic performance in the Filipino subject, although there are differences in economic status based on family size and income. Despite the students’ positive outlook, continuous assessment and enhancement of various aspects of their learning remain important to sustain and improve their academic success.
