PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
ABSTRACT This study examined the challenges, coping mechanisms, and insights of administrative officers in their pursuit of professional development within the Division of Agusan del Sur. Using a phenomenological research design, it captured the lived experiences of ten purposively selected administrative officers assigned in various schools during the academic year 2025–2026. Data were gathered through in-depth, face-to-face interviews, ensuring adherence to ethical protocols such as informed consent and confidentiality. Findings revealed that administrative officers faced multifaceted challenges, including managing communication in areas with limited or no internet access, travelling on difficult roads to remote schools, balancing administrative duties with academic pursuits, handling diverse teacher behaviors, and managing financial constraints. These challenges were further compounded by assignments in far-flung areas and the demands of fulfilling both professional and personal responsibilities. Despite these obstacles, participants demonstrated resilience through various coping strategies. They practiced effective time management, maintained self-discipline, sought peer support, nurtured good relationships with colleagues, and sustained a positive mindset. Prayer, patience, and a sense of purpose emerged as vital sources of strength. Administrative officers also employed problem-solving skills, transparency, and adaptability to maintain efficiency and uphold workplace standards. The study underscores the significant contributions of administrative officers to the school system, including timely report submissions, teacher support, attendance monitoring, and adherence to financial management protocols. It highlights the necessity for institutional support, structured training programs, and policies that are sensitive to the realities of administrative work in geographically challenging contexts. By addressing these concerns, educational institutions can empower administrative officers to fulfill their roles more effectively, ultimately enhancing the overall efficiency of school operations and contributing to the advancement of educational administration in underserved areas.
