The present research examines the role fashion plays in self-expression, and how fashion becomes an extension of oneself. The research took its inspiration from existing fashion trends and promotional strategies opted by various brands who emphasize upon the enhanced psychological and social value that gets credited with their products. The research explored if in reality, people perceived brands and fashion to be linked to positive mental health, heightened self and social esteem. Conducting a survey with 50 young-adults and interviews with 5 individuals of different age groups, various dynamics of fashion, choice, self-esteem and personality factors emerged in the study. A unique aspect of individuals defying societal expectations and norms through their fashion choice also emerged. Individuals tend to place their unique, individual identities upon the world by choosing fashion that feels authentic to them, and is not governed by normative practices.
