Abstract

Life Skills Education, communication skills, problem-solving skills, social inclusion, higher secondary education, assistive supports
Adolescence is a pivotal time for developing skills beyond academics, equipping teens to handle life’s complexities, foster relationships, and make informed decisions. For Children with Special Needs (CWSN) at the higher secondary level, Life Skills Education (LSE) can be transformative, promoting inclusion and self-assurance in daily interactions. This study investigates how LSE enhances communication and problem-solving abilities, drawing on global standards from organizations like WHO and UNICEF, as well as India’s policies, such as the RPwD Act and NCERT guidelines. The findings show that integrating LSE into regular teaching, supported by appropriate tools and training, significantly improves students’ ability to express themselves, understand others, collaborate, and approach tasks confidently. To scale these benefits, we recommend incorporating LSE into school curricula, enhancing teacher training, involving parents, and utilizing technology to support learning. By fostering these skills, LSE not only aids academic success but also prepares CWSN to thrive in their broader lives.
