Kushtha Roga (skin disorders) represents a group of chronic, recurrent, and often difficult-to-manage diseases described extensively in Ayurvedic literature. Among the numerous formulations advocated by Acharyas, Amrita Ghrita is a classical preparation indicated for Kushtha, Vatarakta, and other Dushadhya conditions. The present study is an evidence-based literary review aimed at evaluating the therapeutic potential of Amrita Ghrita in the management of Kushtha Roga through critical analysis of classical Ayurvedic texts (Nighantus and Samhitas) and relevant contemporary scientific literature. The formulation primarily comprises Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Dugdha (milk), and Ghrita (ghee). Classical references unanimously describe Guduchi as Kushthaghna, Rasayana, Tridoshashamaka, and Raktashodhaka, making it highly suitable for skin disorders rooted in Dosha and Rakta vitiation. Dugdha and Ghrita contribute Snigdha, Sheetala, Brimhana, and Ojovardhaka properties, aiding in tissue nourishment, inflammation control, and restoration of skin integrity. The Ghrita Kalpana further enhances drug bioavailability and deeper tissue delivery due to its Yogavahi nature. Modern pharmacological studies support the immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and rejuvenative actions of Guduchi and Ghrita, correlating well with the Ayurvedic rationale in chronic dermatological conditions. The review concludes that Amrita Ghrita is a scientifically rational and therapeutically promising formulation for Kushtha Roga. Nevertheless, systematic clinical trials and experimental studies are required to substantiate its clinical efficacy and establish standardized therapeutic protocols.
