Abstract
Fire accidents pose a serious threat to human life, property, and the environment. Conventional fire suppression methods generally depend on water, chemical agents, or manual intervention. This project presents an embedded system for flame detection and experimental acoustic fire suppression using sound waves. The proposed system integrates an ESP32 development board, a flame sensor, an audio playback arrangement, an amplifier, and a woofer to perform flame detection and generate acoustic waves.
The flame sensor detects the presence of a flame and provides an input signal to the ESP32. Based on the sensor input, the microcontroller controls the audio output section. The required audio signal is prepared using Audacity, where the audio file is processed and converted into WAV format. The WAV data is then converted into a suitable header file using HxD so that it can be incorporated into the embedded program. The generated audio signal is amplified using a TPA3116D2 amplifier and delivered through an 8-inch woofer.
The developed prototype was implemented and experimentally tested. The system successfully detected the flame and generated acoustic waves through the woofer. During testing, the acoustic output resulted in complete extinguishment of the tested flame under the experimental conditions. This project demonstrates the potential of combining embedded technology and acoustic waves for an alternative fire suppression approach. Further research is required to evaluate its effectiveness under different fire conditions and practical environments.
