The significance of risk management training as best practice has been widely recognized, but there is no such empirical evidence in school-based settings in developing countries. The current study sought to investigate the relationship between risk management training and the preparedness of public secondary school employees for workplace risks in a Philippine secondary school, employing a quantitative correlational method. The study was grounded on the responses of 95 teaching and non-teaching staff who had been formally trained in risk management or disaster preparedness. The data were gathered using a structured questionnaire employing a Likert scale adapted from existing preparedness scales. Descriptive statistics were employed to assess the extent of training and preparedness; analyzed employing Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression analysis to determine the strength and predictability of training dimensions. The results showed a significant positive relationship between management training and employee preparedness, while the application of training in drills, training quality, and perceived administrative support emerged as the key predictors of preparedness. The study introduces the advantages of the structured and contextually responsive training programs that are largely experiential and institutional in support. More importantly, this study highlights the often-overlooked area of school-based risk management in developing countries and contributes to the existing empirical literature, thus providing disaster preparedness frameworks and safety cultures that are more robust and advantageous.
