Abstract

Mechanical Engineering
Hippe oil, Honge oil, Rice Bran oil, Brake power, Brake thermal efficiency.
Combustion is the process in which stored chemical energy in the form of heat energy, is converted into another type of energy. The output from this process is heat and light. In order to achieve combustion, we need three key components: fuel, oxygen, and heat. In an internal combustion engine (ICE), the ignition and combustion of the fuel occurs within the engine itself. The engine then partially converts the energy from the combustion to work. The engine consists of a fixed cylinder and a moving piston. The expanding combustion gases push the piston, which in turn rotates the crankshaft. The investigations on the performance of the IC engine are done by measuring the Brake power and Brake thermal efficiency. The readings are noted down for running the IC engine with 100% Diesel(B0), 60% Diesel + 40% Honge oil(H40), 60% Diesel + 40% Hippe oil (M40) and 60% Diesel + 40% Rice Bran oil(R40) for 2 Hrs, 4 Hrs and 6 Hrs respectively. From combustion analysis, a conclusion can be drawn that the brake thermal efficiency is better using Hippe oil (M40) as compared to the other three i.e., Diesel (B0), Honge oil (H40) and Rice Bran oil (R40), and also, the brake thermal efficiency is greater for M40.
