Fungal infection, COVID-19, Mucormycosis, Antifungal drugs
Some fungal illnesses have symptoms that are similar to COVID-19, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath. To identify if a person has a fungal infection or COVID-19, laboratory testing is required. COVID-19 and a fungal infection might occur in the same patient. People who have severe COVID-19, such as those who are in an intensive care unit (ICU), are especially prone to bacterial and fungal infections. Aspergillosis or invasive candidiasis are the most common fungal diseases in COVID-19 patients. These fungal co-infections are becoming more common, and they have been linked to serious sickness and death. It is critical to be aware of the likelihood of fungal co-infection in order to avoid diagnostic and treatment delays and assist prevent serious disease and death from these infections.
