Abstract
Personal safety and rapid emergency communication are important concerns, especially in unsafe and isolated environments. Traditional mobile safety applications require users to unlock their smartphones, open applications, and manually send emergency messages. During dangerous situations, these actions may be difficult or impossible. To overcome these limitations, this project presents an IoT-Enabled Smart Wearable Safety Pendant designed to provide quick emergency assistance through automatic distress detection, image capture, GPS tracking, and cloud-based communication. The proposed system is developed using an ESP32-CAM microcontroller, which acts as the main processing unit. It provides two emergency triggering methods: a tactile SOS push button and an acoustic sensor. The SOS button allows the user to manually activate the emergency alert, while the acoustic sensor detects loud sounds or distress-related vocal cues such as shouting for help. This dual-trigger mechanism improves the flexibility and accessibility of the device during emergency situations. When an emergency is detected, the ESP32-CAM activates the camera to capture an image of the surrounding environment. At the same time, the NEO-6M GPS module obtains the user's geographical location. The captured image, GPS coordinates, Google Maps location link, and timestamp are combined to create an emergency notification. This information is transmitted through a secure HTTPS connection to a configured Discord Emergency Webhook using Wi-Fi connectivity. The received notification helps emergency contacts understand the situation and identify the user's location quickly. In addition, the system includes a relay-controlled ultrasonic mist maker that acts as an additional deterrent during emergency situations. The device is powered by a rechargeable 3.7V lithium-polymer battery, supported by charging and voltage-boosting circuits, making it suitable for portable wearable applications. The experimental evaluation demonstrates an average alert transmission latency of 1.82 seconds, a trigger-to-alert success rate of 96.8%, and an acoustic detection sensitivity of 92.4% within a range of 3.5 metres. The system also provides a standby endurance of more than 18.5 hours. Overall, the proposed smart safety pendant offers a compact, wearable, and reliable approach to personal emergency assistance by combining dual-mode triggering, real-time location tracking, image capture, and IoT-based alert communication
